Samsung is expected to release a 5-inch foldable smartphone by Q1 2017. Moreover, the device when opened will be converted into a 7-inch tablet.
According to reports coming in, a prototype of foldable display is finished with development and the company is hoping to mass-produce the device starting from second half of this year.
To be manufactured by integrating latest technologies that are essential to build foldable smartphone, the device can bend a screen in half by using OLED display. Moreover, you will be able to use the device like a wallet.
Responding to questions from reporters, Lee Chang-hoon, Director, Samsung Display revealed that development of foldable OLED is taking place according to our plan. We are planning on mass-production and release of this product by discussing with our partners, adds Lee.
Accordingto analysts, mass-production of foldable smartphones cannot be started so easily because Samsung has to complete some unfinished work before the end of 2016.
