Suresh Gopi, Malayalam super star sworn in as Rajya Sabha Member

Super Gopinathan Nair, popularly called as Suresh Gopi and one of the leading Malayalam super stars has sworn in as Rajya Sabha member on April 29 under the presence of Vice President Hamid Ansari. He took the oath of office in the name of God and also touched the feet of Ansari to seek his blessings.

Nominated by President under Arts & Philanthrophy category, Suresh Gopi was seen wearing a traditional white dhothi and a white pair of chappals. Gopi was accompanied by his wife and children for the swearing in ceremony.

Suresh Gopi, reportedly close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was previously nominated to the position of Chairman, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) but was never appointed.

During the corporation election in November, Suresh Gopi publicly revealed that he will vote for BJP even if the promise given to him was not fulfilled. However, Modi was having something big for the Gopi’s kitty.

There are rumors that Modi will expand the cabinet after May 16 assembly elections and Suresh Gopi will be allotted a cabinet berth in a key portfolio.


Touted to bring more energy to Kerala people, Gopi can influence voters in large numbers due to his pleasant appearance and style. However, it is learnt that BJP Kerala state leadership was not taken into confidence over his MP post.

Suresh Gopi has been active in film industry since 1980s and was seen in large number offilms between 1990 to 2000. His popular films include Commissioner, FIR, Independence, Mafia, Deena (Tamil), Kichamani, Nadhiya Koolpatta Rathri and the more recently The Dolphins.

His films doesn’t made any impression in the box office for the last five years and it is because of this reason the super star decided to take political route to keep himself engaged.

As regards Philanthropy, Suresh Gopi helped several people to build houses and also assisted people who are suffering from Endosulfan.
