Ruckus at Xiaomi Mi Max Launch Event on June 30 as Delhi Police arrived at tech event

Xiaomi unveiled Mi Max at a mega event in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi on Thursday. However, things were not as expected. Normally, tech events will not have chanting of slogans. But in case of the Xiaomi event, there was a huge ugly scenes since they protesters demanded kits to be handed over to them.

Xiaomi had invited a large number of so called “fans” and a section of fans who were seated inside the stadium started shouting “Xiaomi hai hai” and other less than flattering slogans about the company and its personnel.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi India head Manu Jain appeared on the stage to calm down the crowd and asked the fans about the problem. We reliably learned that a section of the fans was upset since they didn’t receive Xiaomi t-shirts that the rest of the fans at the venue were given.

According to Jain, the company had grossly underestimated the number of people who’ll land up to attend the event. Jain assured everyone they will get t-shirt and other freebies – all Mi fans had received a Mi band at a previous Xiaomi event in New Delhi – “if not today, then at a later stage”. However, few fans were not upset at the decision of the company to delay the gratification to an unspecified date in the future.

Even though few fans managed to relent, Delhi Police arrived at the venue and made an announcement. They requested everyone to calm down. After that Hugo Barra appeared on the scene and introduced MIUI 8 and Xiaomi Mi Max to the media and the fans – almost like a sideshow, given the events preceding his presentation.
