Idea Cellular, a leading mobile provider based in India has slashed mobile internet rates for its prepaid customers to up to 45 percent. According to industry analysts, Idea has done this price cut to not only to attract new customers but also to retain users ahead of Reliance Jio Infocomm upcoming launch of 4G services across the country.
With over 175 million subscribers, Idea announced that the 2G, 3G and 4G subscribers will be eligible to get up to 45 percent extra data benefits on packages below 1GB. For example, if you have a 2G data pack at Rs. 19 for 74MB data, you will get 110MB for three days at the same price, which accouns for over 45 percent increase in package without price increase.
In the mean time, a 4G package for Rs. 22 offering 75MB data will be able to get 90MB data for three days without additional price increase. If you are unaware, Idea offers a wide range of data packages between Rs. 8 and Rs. 225.
Commenting on the development, Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular disclosed that Internet is one of the major factors which contributes to the development of the Indian Economy and Digital India initiatives. The company would like to ensure that benefits of Internet reaches the hands of every individuals without causing additional burden.
The company announced that the updated data packages are available across all mobile circles starting from June 15. Earlier, Airtel had slashed data rates by 50 percent only for downloads by prepaid customers between 3 AM and 5 AM.
