According to IDC, Huawei has become the leading smartphone manufacturer in the country with over 17 percent market share in Q2 2016. The company has shipped 19.1 million handsets in the quarter, compared to 16.6 million in the same quarter last year.
While Oppo and Vivo occupied the second and the third positions with 16.2 percent and 13.2 percent share respectively, Xiaomi and Apple was shunted out to the fifth place. Both Oppo and Vivo managed to increase the market share considerably. However, Xiaomi shipments fell by 28.4 percent and Apple by 31.7 percent.
Commenting on the IDC report, Xiaohan Tay disclosed that the success of Huawei, OPPO, and vivo in the market can be attributed to their concerted effort to build their brand and aggressive marketing to attract the consumers, along with the focus on product differentiation.
Previously, Xiaomi began the pattern of offering its smartphones online and different merchants soon stuck to this same pattern and made their own particular online brand. However, after sellers saw OPPO’s prosperity with its R9, they likewise began riding on the pattern of procuring VIP endorsers to speak to their image and claim more to the youthful group.
