The IT@School under Government of Kerala has refreshed the School Wiki initiative after five years. Designed and presented as per the traditional Wikipedia, the main purpose of the School Wiki is to nurture the culture of collaborative content development and deployment in 15000 schools in the state.
The redesigned and revamped School Wiki portal will be officially available from November 1. After November 1, school authorities will be able to login and provide basic information and other relevant details.
Commenting on the School Wiki project, Kerala Education Minister C Raveendranath disclosed that special awards will be given to school who actively maintain the SchoolWiki in the most effective manner.
The portal will also feature a wide range of educational content prepared by students from various schools across Kerala. Moreover, the School Wiki portal will also provide access to course materials developed by teacher communities.
We navigated the School Wiki portal and saw that the homepage already feature wonderful creations of students in the form of pictures, poems and other content.
As of this writing, the School Wiki portal provides free access to study materials. However, we are unable to access any content. We expect more content to be made available after November 1.
Even though School Wiki was launched in November 2009 by the then LDF government, the project became inactive after two years after taking ver of UDF government. The School Wiki project was reactivated after the Left occupied Kerala in May 2016.
