Thiruvananthapuram central railway station gets better with free Wi-Fi service

RailTel has commissioned the free Wi-Fi service at Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) railway station in strategic partnership with RailTel and Google. The service was inaugurated by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, MP at a function held on October 28, 2016. Senior officials from RailTel and Southern Railway presided over the function.

This is the fourth installation of the free Wi-Fi service in Kerala. Meanwhile, Ernakulam South, Thrissur and Kozhikode stations already got free Wi-Fi service well ahead of Thiruvananthapuram.

As many as 35 access points have been installed at the various locations in the station premises. Each hotspot point will be capable of covering 50 metres. Moreover, a single hotspot will be able to cover 70 customers at the same time.

If you visit Thiruvananthapuram railway station, you will be able to access free Wi-Fi in all the five platforms, IRR canteen and booking offices.

The free Wi-Fi service has been established in association with RailTel and Google. The infrastructure, servers and hotspots are managed by Google.

Even though the total capacity of installed network is 1Gbps, the speed will depend upon number of users accessing the web. You can access Wi-Fi at 3Mbps initially for a one hour and after that the speed will be reduced to 1Gbps.
