Apple will not release an new update to the iPhone SE in March 2017. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino-based company will not release an update next year. The company is planning to extend the life of iPhone SE to another one year instead of releasing a new phone.
Kuo reveals that Apple is aiming to push to maximize gross margins and spare the true flagship iPhone 7 from internal competition. However, the current forecast is for the second fiscal quarter of 2017 (March 2017). Hence, a new refresh after April cannot be ruled out at this point of time.
Kuo also said that the total number of iPhone shipments for the current quarter was between 40 and 50 million, which is doewn from the 51.2 million for the same period last year. For Q2 2017, Kuo predicts the total sale of iPhone from 35 to 40 million. This is also a significant decrease when compared to 40.4 million in 2015.
