With just hours to go before America goes to the polls to elect its 45th President, Facebook has some interesting data to share about the conversations and interactions that were generated on the platform around the same.
Between March 23, 2015 and November 1, 2016, nearly 289 million people around the world generated 10 billion likes, posts, comments and shares related to the US election. (Note: March 23 is the date Republican Ted Cruz announced his candidacy for president, becoming the first candidate to do so)
With regard to India in particular, over 9.3 million people on Facebook across the country generated over 40 million likes, posts, comments and shares related to the US election.
Additionally, in 2015, the most talked-about topic worldwide on Facebook was the 2016 US presidential election.
Besides that, the top 10 moments of the presidential campaign on Facebook and the two top-performing pieces of Facebook content from each of the major party presidential candidates are as follows.
