If rumors are to be believed, Apple is expected to integrate an OLED display panel with iPhone 2017. According to reports, the iPhone anniversary edition will feature an OLED panel instead of traditional LED IPS display. Recently, president of Sharp, Tai Jeng-wu had indicated the presence of OLED display.
The JP Morgan investment firm had revealed that it had manged to find a purchase order for a total cost of $4 billion. Based on reports, this seems to be a long-term OLED sourcing contract.
You should note that development of OLED panel are costly and requird a great amount of experience to integrate into the phone. Based on reports so far, we expect Sharp to manufacture OLED display panels for the Cupertino-based giant.
According to industry analysts, Apple is not planning to eliminate the use of LTPS panel technology. We expect that the upcoming iPhone will ship in three variants. The first phone will be the exclusive anniversary 5.5-inch OLED display.
Interestingly, this model will be equipped with a curved display. For the second model, Apple will retain the LTPS technology for both 4.7-inch and 5-inch variants.
