WhatsApp has introduced the much-awaited video calling feature in a bid to establish people connectivity. In a statement issued to the press, the Facebook-owned company revealed that more than one billion users will be able to perform video calls across Android, iPhone, and Windows gadgets.
Commenting on the development, Jan Koum, CEO & Co-Founder, WhatsApp disclosed that video calling is one of the most requested features from people in India. We are proud to have the opportunity to launch this feature in India, where we now have 160 million users. Koum added that the main aim of the company is enable people to see each other face to face irrespective of the location.
The sources close to WhatsApp said that the video calling feature has been introduce because sometimes voice and test are not adequate. The company would like to extend the new features to all users and not for those who make use of premium flagship smartphones.
Koum also said that the company received several feedback from users to implement video calling. He added tha the main intention of the mobile messaging platform is to help people to keep in touch with friends and family at any time.
To work with the WhatsApp video calling feature, you need to tap on the call button in the top right corner of a conversation. You will view an prompt, which asks you wheter you would like to perform voice or video call. You just need to select the video call option from the display.
When you are on the call, you can esily switch between the rear and front-facing cameras. You can mute the call or press the red button to hand up the conversation.
Even though WhatsApp provides features for communications, text messages and voice calling, the video calling is one of the most popular feature requests from users.
