Maruti Suzuki India faced a decline of 1% in the early morning trade on January 2, 2016. The India’s largest car manufacturer had reported 1 percent decline in total sales in December 2016 compared to same period in 2015.
If you look at the December 2016 figures, the total sales stood at 1,17,908 units. However, the gross sales were 1,19,149 units in December 2015. As you can see, there is a drastic reduction in the sales of vehicles in 2016. We attribute the decline in sales due to the Demonetisation exercise carried out by Prime Minister starting November 8.
The overall domestic sales were pegged at 1,06,414 units, wich is 4.4 percent decline. In December 2015, the sales figure was around 1,11,333 units. In a statement released to the press, the company sources disclosed that the company posted a 20 percent decline in sales for the month of November 2016.
Meanwhile, the sales of Alto and WagonR including mini segment cars declined by 15.3 percent. In December 2015, the sales figure stood tall at 37234 units. However, in December 2016 it was around 31,527 units.
