CES 2017: Asus launches ZenFone AR and ZenFone Zoom with Google 3D Tango support

Asus announced the launch of the world’s thinnest Google Tango enabled Asus ZenFone AR smartphone at the ongoing CES 2017. During the launch event, Asus revealed that the ZenFone AR make use of the Google Tango 3D technology. Moreover, the handset enables you to experience augmented and virtual reality.

According to reports, the Zenfone AR is the second handset to incorporate the Google Tango computing platform with three camera sensors. If you are unaware, the Tango enables you to easily perform indoor mapping and augmented reality operations. The newly launched ZenFone AR is fully compatible with Daydream Virtual Reality platform.

Commenting on the launch, Asus chairman Jonney Shih said that they are excited to be the first to enable not only Tango but also Daydream. He also added that the newly launched 5.7-inch smartphone will be available from the second quarter of 2017.

Responding to media queries, Shih revealed that the new handset enables interaction with virtual objects and provides an ability to watch a movie or get immersed in gaming in both VR and AR environments. Meanwhile, Asus marketing chief Erik Hermanson said that the launch of the new ZenFone AR will set new benchmarks in the smartphone segment.

Project Tango make use of depth-sensing and motion tracking to generate an incredible 3D experience. It enables users to experience an enhanced picture of a physical environment for special functions such as home decoration.

During the Asus launch event at CES 2017, Google Project Tango leader Johnny Lee also joined the party. Lee said that they are expecting several Tango-enabled apps on the Google Play Store. Previously, Lenovo had launched Phab 2 smartphone with support for Project Tango.

In the meantime, Asus also announced the launch of the Zenfone 3 Zoom with enhanced dual-camera technology to enable you to capture professional quality images.

We don’t have any information about the expected launch of Asus ZenFone AR and Asus ZenFone Zoom in India. However, we expect the launch of new handsets around August 2017.
