In a sensational development, Russia has requested Apple and Google to remove LinkedIn from the respective app stores. For instance, the Linkedn app should be removed from Google Play Store with immediate effect in Russia. According to reports, LinkedIn has been accused of flouting local laws that require Internet companies to store data within the borders of the nation.
To recall, a Russian court ordered to block LinkedIn for breaching the country’s data protection rules. In a statement released to the press, the Cupertino-based company has confirmed the removal of the LinkedIn app in Russia about a month ago. Although Google hasn’t confirmed the removal of LinkedIn in Russia, the search-engine giant has added that the company has abided by the laws of the Russian land.
Meanwhile, LinkedIn has disclosed that the company is deeply disappointed with the decision taken by the Russian regulators to block the service.
Commenting on the development, Nicole Leverich, who works as a spokeswoman for LinkedIn said that if blocked then it will lead to denial of access to our members in Russia. Moreover, the blockage of LinkedIn will be a severe blow to companies and individuals who make use of the service to grow their professional business. As of today, LinkedIn has several million users in Russia.
Recently, Apple was forced to remove the New York Times app from the official app store as per a request from Chinese authorities. They claim that the app was in violation of regulations imposed by China.
We wonder why Apple is still depending on China for the manufacture of iPhones and iPad even when the company is being boycotted by Chinese authorities. The recent request of US President-elect Donald Trump asking Apple to start manufacturing within the US assumes great significance. It’s high time for the Apple to consider other potential markets to manufacture their devices rather than depending upon China.
That being said, China is well known from banning social media platform such as Facebook and search engine Google. The main reason was because the social media platform harms national security and also promote misinformation. If you are unaware, The Wall Street Journal’s Chinese site has been blocked since 2014.
