Alphabet ditches Internet centric Drone Titan project citing profitability

Alphabet has reportedly shelved its plan to broadcast internet services from highflying drones. According to industry analysts, the latest move to shelve Titan drone project is part of the efforts of the company to focus on initiatives which are capable of generating profit.

In a statement released to the press, an official spokesperson of Alphabet disclosed that the company is working on to provide Internet services to remote places via Project Loon. Interestingly, the project makes use of high-altitude balloons. Moreover, few product team members of the Titan group are involved with the drone-delivery mechanism called Project Wing.

According to reports, the company is also working to deliver high-speed Internet via fiber-optic cables, modular smartphones and robotics. Google is also planning to sell satellite business to Planet Labs Inc. Based on credible reports, migrating Titan to Project Loon would prove beneficial in the long run since it is economically and technically viable.

The search engine giant acquired Titan in 2014. However, we still don’t know as to for how much amount the company was purchased. During acquisition, the company formed by technology giant Vern Raburn had 20 employees.

With Alphabet shutting down Project Titan, we need to wait and watch for the implications of the Internet drone project.
