Alcatel tipped to launch modular smartphones on February 27 at MWC 2017

Alcatel is expected to conduct a detailed press conference on February 27 at the forthcoming MWC 2017. According to reports, the TCL-backed company will launch five smartphones during the event. However, we don’t have any information regarding the number of modular handsets expected to release at the event. We can confirm the launch of a modular smartphone.

The teaser reveals the scheduled time of the event at 9.30 AM, which is around 2 PM IST. Moreover, the teaser contains the word “Light Up” in all caps followed by enjoy now below it.

The teaser also showcases a lit-up device coupled with a mesh-like LED bulb design. On the side of the rumored phone, we can see the word “alcatel” vertically.

According to rumors, Alcatel will unveil series of modular smartphones, which will look similar to that of the Moto Mods-centric accessories. We expect the launch of an attachment which will have an LED-dotted panel that will glow at the back. Moreover, the LEDs will glow based on the music being played in the background. In short, the attachment automatically syncs to the music.

If the rumors are to be believed, the upcoming Alcatel modular smartphone will ship with a 13MP rear camera sensor alongside dual-tone LED flash. Moreover, the phone will be equipped with an octa-core MediaTek processor.

There are rumors that Alcatel will unveil five smartphones at MWC 2017. However, we don’t have any official confirmation about the number of smartphones expected to launch during the event. We hope to get few hints in the says to come.

If you look at the history, the modular design smartphones were no successful since the phones released by LG didn’t receive much attention among tech enthusiasts. However, Motorola managed to get few success. However, we are waiting to see the kind of add-ons and accessories does Alcatel introduce as part of the modular strategy.

In addition to Alcatel, Sony will also launch five handsets at the MWC 2017. That said, Samsung, Lenovo, Sony, and Nokia have already announced their presence at the MWC 2017. Hence, we can expect a power packed show with glittering gadgets all over the exhibition venue.
