Google has rolled out Instant Tethering feature for the flagship Pixel and Nexus smartphones. Previously, the feature was rolled out three weeks back on Pixel smartphones. The main purpose of the feature is to establish communication without a Wi-Fi connectivity.
If your Nexus or Pixel finds that there is a lack of Wi-Fi connectivity, the handset will automatically switch to its own mobile hotspot. The background work is carried out by a single tap.
Meanwhile, Omri Amarilio, who works with Google took to the Pixel User community on Google’s product forums to explain the steps required to activate the feature. Moreover, he also examines the various scenarios you will be able to make use of the feature. He finishes the post by asking the following query about Instant Tethering
Where did you last wish you had the internet on your tablet?
If you verify the Google’s official help and support site, you will be able to view a list of all host devices such as Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P running Android 7.1.1 and up. These smartphones provide the capability to share their mobile connection with each other. However, Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Pixel C, and Nexus 9 running Android 6.0 and up will automatically make use of shared data connections.
While few carriers limit the use of tethering, other mobile providers offer it without any extra charges. You should cross check with your mobile carrier about the availability if a plan that enables you to tether without incurring additional fees.
To enable Instant Tethering, you need to navigate to Settings | Google | Instant Tethering from within your smartphone. Once you are on the page, you need to enable either Provide data connection or Get data connection option.
