Google has started to roll out Android 7.0 downgraded OTA update to Nexus 6 handsets loaded with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Recently, the search-engine giant started to roll out the March security update for Nexus 6. However, the update was a disaster since it corrupted Android Pay.
Users who have downloaded the update have started to complain that they are unable to work with Android Pay after the update. Meanwhile, the company confirmed the presence of a bug and disclosed that their product team is currently investigating the problem.
Since Google was unable to fix the bug, the company has now started to push a downgraded OTA to all Nexus 6 handsets loaded with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. If you install the update, your smartphone will be forcibly reversed to version 7.0.
As a user, you have no option other than to install the Android 7.0 update. Otherwise, you will not receive future OTA updates. Google community manager took to Reddit and shared the information that the installation of the downgraded update is vital to receive the upcoming OTA updates.
He also suggests users perform a factory reset in case if you experience any problems with the installation of the Android 7.0 update. You should be very careful because you need to capture a backup of all your content such as images, videos, and messages including contacts stored locally. A factory reset will completely wipe out the handset and will bring to the previous state. Meanwhile, Google added that the Nexus 6 smartphones would not receive any future Android upgrades.
