Reliance Jio Summer Surprise: All You Want To Know

Reliance Jio introduced Jio Summer Surprise offer on April 1 after the Happy New Year offer expired on March 31. As part of the deal, if you pay Rs. 303 along with the prime membership fees of Rs. 99, you will be eligible to get three months of 4G connectivity.

You need not have to pay any amount until the end of June. If you are already a member of Jio Prime, you just need to pay Rs. 303 for three months.

If you have already recharged last month by paying for a suitable package, you will also be eligible for the Jio Summer Suprise offer. Your previous recharge package will take effect on July 1.

The Jio Summer Suprise offer was a great offer since customers will be able to enjoy 4G data and voice calling at a discounted price for three months. We personally liked the package and subscribed to it.

However, April 6 was a dark day for Reliance Jio customers since TRAI issued a notice to Reliance Jio asking them to withdraw the offer at their earliest convenience. The company hasn’t disclosed any date for the discontinuation of the scheme. The company added that the Jio Summer Suprise package will be discontinued operationally feasible over the next few days.

If you visit jio.com and happen to see the below message, you will be eligible to avail all the benefits of the package.

Reliance Jio Summer Surprise

According to TRAI, the Jio Summer Surprise offer doesn’t come under the preview of the regulatory framework. The TRAI had issued a notice on April 1 and the senior officials from Reliance Jio subsequently met TRAI bureaucrats.

Meanwhile, TRAI Secretary Sudhir Gupta said that he discussed the Rs. 303 package with the Reliance Jio officials but was not satisfied with the reply. He also said that Jio officials were unable to explain the feasibility angle of the package.

Interestingly, Amit Bhawani, a popular blogger in India and founder of PhoneRadar blog has started a campaign on change.org against the decision of TRAI with the title “The Average Indian Needs Affordable Internet Access”.

Reliance Jio Summer Surprise Petition

As you can see from the above image, the petition received 90,720 signatures and is growing on a daily basis. Moreover, several online publications have covered the news about the launch of the petition. According to Bhawani, the petition will be sent to TRAI, PMO India, and DOT.

After the receipt of the notice, Reliance Jio had compiled with the directives and revealed that the Jio Summer Surprise offer will be discontinued within the next few days. However, customers who have already subscribed to the plan will continue to receive the benefits associated with the scheme.

We wonder why TRAI has decided to gag Reliance Jio because customers are paying money. The services provided are same as in the rest of the plans. The only difference is that you are paying three months charges in lump sum to avail three months of uninterrupted clean 4G connectivity.

As of writing this article, the Jio Summer Surprise is available for purchase. If you can view the above-mentioned yellow-colored image, you can recharge your Jio number and you will get all the benefits of the package. It will take one day for you to receive a confirmation from the Jio servers.

We don’t have an information about when Reliance will discontinue the scheme. We expect that Reliance will drag the package until April 14 before its termination. If you are able to view the above image, then you can assume that the offer has been discontinued.

Going forward, it will be difficult for Reliance Jio to provide any offers because of severe restrictions imposed by the TRAI. The regulator should also understand the benefits of the package such as Jio Summer Surprise while deciding the fate.

Latest Update: The Jio Summer Surprise offer has been removed officially. Reliance has updated the home page by stating that they are updating the tariff packages and will be back with exciting offers.
