Xiaomi unravels the mystery behind the removal of headphone port in Mi 6

Xiaomi Mi 6

Nowadays, smartphone manufacturers have been releasing new devices without the traditional headphone port. Xiaomi also released the flagship Mi 6 handset without a headphone port. Xiaomi has given few reasons for the ditching of the headphone port in Mi 6. The main reason for the elimination of the headphone port is attributed to accommodate an enhanced battery.

According to Xiaomi, the smartphones are integrated products and internal space is precious. Moreover, the production team needs to embed all the internal components within a small space. Hence, the removal of the headphone port will help the company to integrate a large battery. Based on the kind of reply given to Android Central, Xiaomi is gearing up to eliminate headphone port in all the upcoming smartphones.

The removal of headphone port also helped the company to embed audio chip onto the USB Type-C port. You need access to a special USB Type-C enabled headphone. That said, Xiaomi has bundled a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter inside the product package.

Interestingly, even after removing the headphone port, the Xiaomi Mi6 measures 7.45mm thickness when compared to 7.25mm in Mi 5. Moreover, the Mi 6 features a 3350mAh battery coupled with an improved dual rear camera sensor. You can immerse your Mi6 in water since the phone is capable of surviving splashes via IP68 water-resistant technology.

To recall, the Apple iPhone7 and LeEco Le 2 had already eliminated the headphone port and created a positive impression among the fans. However, we need to wait as to how Xiaomi Fans will reach to the removal of the headphone port from the Mi 6. We don’t have any information as to whether Xiaomi will release other smartphones without the headphone port.
