Xiaomi has teased the release of the much-awaited MIUI 9. According to the official teaser, the MIUI 9 will hit select Redmi and Mi smartphones on August 16. The company also took to the official Mi Community and revealed the launch date before August 16.
Upon inspection of the teaser, we are unable to find any detailed information about MIUI 9. The company has published a simple image with the caption “Let’s connect better” followed by the month and date. The word “coming soon” has been punched below the content. You will not be able to find any other information on the teaser.

Technically, MIUI 9 is based on Android Nougat and will be available only to select devices, which are recently released. You can expect to work with MIUI 9 if you have any one of the following devices.
- Mi 6
- Mi 5c
- Mi MIX
- Mi Note 2
- Mi 5
- Mi 5s Plus
- Mi 4c
- Mi 4s
- Redmi 4X
- Redmi Note 4
- Redmi Note 4X
- Mi MAX
- Mi Pad 3
Although the above-mentioned devices will get MIUI 9, you can expect Xiaomi to add more smartphones to the list. We don’t have any clear idea about whether the company provides the update for the old Redmi Note handset.
After the installation of the MIUI 9, you will be able to work with features such as split-screen mode, picture-in-picture mode, improved notifications and enhanced Doze support in addition to an integrated screen recorder. You will be able to uninstall system apps, which is not possible with the currently available MIUI 8.
You should keep a close watch for the presence of the update in the form of a message notification after August 16. Meanwhile, you can also manually verify the presence of the update by tapping Tools | Updater option. You should also establish connectivity with Wi-Fi and charge the handset up to 100 percent. The update will likely measure more than 1GB in size and hence downloading via Wi-Fi will be an ideal choice.
