Xiaomi has rolled out Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Redmi Note 4 smartphone for customers based in Greece and India. With a weight of 1.3GB, the update installs the latest version of Android Nougat with significant improvements and bug fixes.
Initially, the update has been pushed to customers based in Greece. However, customers based in India have reported that they are started to receive the update. The update is tagged with MIUI Global 8.5 and includes Android security updates for the month of July as well in addition to Android Nougat.
Xiaomi has pushed the Android 7.0 Nougat update for customers based in India shortly after the availability of the update in Greece. Interestingly, the update is being made available as MIUI 8.5.4.0 and note MIUI 9. Even though the update has started to rollout, it will take few days for the new bits to be visible on the Redmi Note 4 based on the region.
Before proceeding to install the update, you need to activate Wi-Fi to avoid excess mobile charges. The size of the update is more than 1GB and hence it is not feasible to install the update over mobile data. The addition of the July Android patch is a big bonus since the Redmi Note 4 will be fully secured against all the latest threats.
If you have access to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, the relevant update message notification will be displayed on the screen. Otherwise, it is also possible to manually check the presence of the update by tapping Tools | Updater option. The update is pushed in a phased manner and hence it will take more than two weeks for the update to hit the handsets.
