OnePlus 3 And 3T Will Not Receive Android O Update

OnePlus has officially confirmed that they will not release Android P update for the flagship OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones. This means the handsets will receive the required update to Android O but nothing beyond that. However, the company has added that they will continue to release security updates for the phones.

If you work with OnePlus 3 and 3T, you will receive an update to Android O as and when available. We expect the launch of the update by the end of 2017. Based on multiple reports, we infer that the Google is gearing up to launch the next version of Android on August 21.

According to Oliver Z, OnePlus Head of Product, the Android O will be the final major update for the OnePlus 3 series. However, customers will continue to receive periodic security updates and patches. He also revealed that after the OnePlus 3 and 3T gets the required Android O update, the Open beta program will be thrown open to the recently released OnePlus 5.

We expect OnePlus to push August security updates for the OnePlus 3/3T within the next few days. Moreover, the company is also gearing up to roll out OxygenOS 4.5 within the next couple of months.

Even though the OnePlus 3 series works under the same OxygenOS as OnePlus 5, some of the important features don’t exist. The main reason is due to the limitation of the hardware and the features include reading mode, off-screen gestures including calibration of the display via DCI-P3.

Oliver added that the company is getting plenty of feedback for the OnePlus 5 and the team is working to improve the performance of the system and also to address the bugs. He agreed that OnePlus 3/3T is not getting the required update. However, he advises users to join the open beta program to work with the latest release of the OxygenOS.
