Google is scheduled to launch the next-generation Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on October 5. The main attraction of the Google Pixel 2 XL is the integration of Android 8.0 Oreo, which is expected to bring plenty of new features. The latest news is that the Google Pixel 2 XL will feature a 5.99-inch bezel-less display.
Previously, there were reports that the Pixel series won’t ship with a bezel-less display. It seems that the company has changed the mind since competing handsets such as Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, LG G6 ships with bezel-less displays. We have also seen the same trend being adopted by several Chinese companies such as Elephone.
According to PhoneArena, the Google Pixel 2 will retain the standard design of the previous counterpart. However, the Pixel 2 XL will most likely ship with a bezel-less display measuring 5.99-inches. The default model will flaunt a 4.97-inch FHD OLED display with thicker bezels.
The upcoming Google Pixel series will ship with a Snapdragon 836 processor, up to 6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage and will be loaded with the Android 8.0 Oreo. To recall, Google had launched the Oreo operating platform on August 21.
While HTC will manufacture the Pixel 2 handset, the larger variant will be integrated into the production facility of LG. Google has reportedly given the partnership to LG as the company is familiar with the design and manufacture of smartphones with the bezel-less display.
A noticeable difference in the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is the elimination of headphone jack identical to that of the Apple iPhone 7. While the upcoming Pixel 2 XL will have dual cameras, the standard model will have a single camera on the rear.
That said, you should accept the above facts only with a pinch of salt since there is no official confirmation. We will continue to keep track of developments and provide updates. Stay tuned.
