Apple iPhone X vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8: Which phone should you buy?

Apple has launched the much-awaited iPhone X along with the regular iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on September 12. The iPhone X ships with a unique design coupled with a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display. You will be able to work with the handset just by tapping on the display. Apple has manufactured the display in such a way that it precisely follow the curves of the design alongside elegantly rounded corners. Moreover, the iPhone X features the OLED display, which provides accurate and stunning colors in addition to true blacks, high brightness and a massive 1000000:1 contrast ratio. The integration of Face ID helps users to unlock the screen using their face.

Designed with surgical‑grade stainless steel, the iPhone X provides support for wireless charging and dust and water resistance using IP67 technology. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was recently launched with a 6.3-inch QHD+ display with support for fingerprint and Iris scanner. In this article, we will compare the features and specifications of iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Towards the end, we will point out the phone you should purchase.


The iPhone X is equipped with a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display with a resolution of 2436×1125 pixels and 625cd/m2 brightness. The all-screen display is made up of fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating and also includes support for true tone and wide color display respectively. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED QHD+ display with a resolution of 2960×1440 pixels and 521PPI. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and ships with support for HDR10, 3D Touch, and always-on display.


Apple has integrated A11 Bionic processor with support for Neural engine and M11 motion coprocessor in the recently released iPhone X. The processor takes advantage of Augmented Reality capabilities to the fullest potential. Apple has increased the storage capacity to 64GB from the current 32GB. The handset will also be available in 256GB storage model. Powered by an Exynos 8895 processor, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 offers Mali-G71 MP20 graphics, 6GB RAM, 64GB expandable internal storage. Samsung will also launch 128GB and 256GB storage models within the next few months.

The iPhone X ships with dual camera sensors comprising of dual 12MP wide-angle and telephoto lens with f/1.8 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The camera is capable of digital zooming up to 10X. The attraction of the phone is the addition of a dual optical image stabilization. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also integrated dual 12MP sensors with f/1.7 and f/2.4 aperture levels with support for PDAF, OIS, autofocus, 2x optical zoom and dual-LED flash. On the front, the Galaxy Note 8 bears an 8MP sensor with a f/1.7 aperture with support for dual video call and auto-HDR functionalities. With iPhone 8, you can shoot 4K videos at 24fps and FHD and HD videos at 30fps respectively. When it comes to the Galaxy Note 8, you can capture 1440P videos at 30fps.

Operating platform

While the iPhone X is preloaded with iOS 11, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The iOS 11 is refreshed with plenty of new features such as animojis and others. Meanwhile, the Android Nougat platform is equipped with split-screen functionality, improved notifications and enhanced power saving mode via Doze.


Apple hasn’t disclosed the total capacity of the battery. However, the phone is capable of delivering a talk time of up to 21 hours on wireless and up to 12 hours on the web usage. It is possible to charge up to 50% within 30 minutes with the help of fast charging technology coupled with wireless charging functionality via Qi chargers. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is powered by a 3300mAh battery, which is capable of delivering a talk time of up to 22 hours. The music playback can last up to 74 hours depending on the scenario.

Based on a number of features, the iPhone X is expensive than the standard iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The 64GB locked model is priced at $999, while the 256GB will hit the retail stores at $1149. Apple hasn’t revealed the availability and price of the unlocked iPhone X. You can also avail installment facility at $49.91 per month and $56.16 per month respectively. You can pre-order the iPhone X from September 27. However, the phone will ship early October depending upon the supply chain.

Regarding Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the unlocked variant of the handset is currently available at $929.99 without adding any accessories and premium care packages. However, Samsung is offering either Gear 360 or 128GB microSD card and wireless charging convertible free of cost. You have to select it while placing an order. The phone is currently available in the US.


The iPhone X is part of the Apple ecosystem and it has its own features such as premium OLED display and unlocking via face recognition technology. The addition of iOS 11 brings in many possibilities. The cost is more than the Galaxy Note 8 by $70. The Note 8 also ships with a display, which is larger than the iPhone X. The Super AMOLED display will be almost on par with the OLED display. However, we are not sure because we haven’t tested any of these phones. The storage expansion capability is the plus point when it comes to the Note 8. However, the device ships with Android Nougat, which is older because of the release of Android Oreo. Apple has infused the latest operating platform, which is iOS 11.

That said, we are in a tight spot to recommend any one of these handsets because they are not at all budget-friendly. It’s your choice between iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 based on the specifications. It doesn’t hurt to wait for some time and take a decision because we never want to see the fate of ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 again. The money involved here is huge and you have to be careful. If you are on a lookout for a premium quality smartphone, then we feel that Apple iPhone X will be the best pick.
