Xiaomi has been added as a member of the Wireless Power Consortium. Touted as the Qi wireless charging standard, the Lei Jun owned company has joined the ranks of companies such as LG, Samsung, and Apple. Going forward, we expect the release of Xiaomi branded devices with support for Qi Wireless Charging.
Even though the company hasn’t officially confirmed the development, the consortium has listed the company as a member. Nowadays, many smartphone manufacturers are integrating wireless charging technology into their devices.
Apple recently launched iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X with support for wireless charging. Moreover, companies such as Samsung, Apple, and Google are also gearing up to release devices with support for Wireless Charging. Going forward, you can expect Samsung to infuse wireless charging with the upcoming Galaxy S9 series slated to release early 2018.
According to rumors, Xiaomi will ship Mi 7 with support for wireless charging and will release in Q1 2018. We don’t have a confirmation regarding whether the Mi 7 will indeed ship with the capability to charge wirelessly. The addition of the wireless charging support on Xiaomi smartphones will be a deal breaker for competing companies such as Oppo, Vivo, Apple, and Samsung.
Regarding the specifications, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 7 will be equipped with a 6-inch FHD AMOLED display and Snapdragon 845 processor. The company will most likely infuse 6GB RAM and will be available in both 128GB and 256GB storage variants. With the Wireless Power Consortium membership, we expect to hear more information about the features of the Mi 7 by the end of 2017.
