Google Nexus 6P Gets Better With Android 8.1 Oreo Beta – Exclusive

Google has rolled out Android 8.1 Oreo beta version for the Google Nexus 6P smartphone. With software build number OPP5.170921.005, the Android 8.1 Oreo update is equipped with several features including performance enhancements.

According to the official software update page, the latest version of the Android 8.1 Oreo update will have not only errors but also defects that could affect the normal functioning of the smartphone.

It is absolutely essential to activate Wi-Fi before downloading because the total capacity of the update is around 898.7MB. However, you can make use of the mobile data if you have a 4G connectivity with high bandwidth.

The main purpose behind the use of Wi-Fi is to avoid excess data charges when downloaded over mobile data. The official update page also specifically mentions that users should not make use of metered Wi-Fi networks since it will lead to additional charges.

If you have access to Google Nexus 6P, you should receive an automated notification using which you can download the Android 8.1 Oreo software bits over OTA. Alternatively, you can also verify the presence of the update by navigating to the Settings icon manually.

Before proceeding to download the update, it is necessary to capture a backup of all your data and media files. The update is in beta stage and it’s better to take proper precaution to avoid data loss. Like in the case of the previous updates, you can provide feedback to Google in case of any abnormal errors.

To recall, Google released Android Oreo 8.1 developer preview two days back and will be compatible only with Nexus and Pixel series smartphones. If you have access to Nexus 6P, 5X including Google Pixel series, you can download and install the update. Otherwise, you are out of luck and should wait until the update is available for your device. The company is planning to release Android Oreo 8.1 in December 2017. However, the beta releases will be made available to users who participate in the Android Beta Program.
