OnePlus 5 will be discontinued with immediate effect

OnePlus recently released OnePlus 5T and will be available for purchase from November 21 on Amazon India. According to a report published by the IDC, OnePlus has emerged as the top smartphone brand in India well ahead of other leading companies such as Apple and Samsung. During an exclusive interview with Indianexpress, OnePlus India GM Vikas Agarwal revealed that the OnePlus 5 will be slowly discontinued after the release of the OnePlus 5T.

The move was expected since the company discontinued OnePlus 3 and the release of the OnePlus 3T in December 2016. Interestingly, the OnePlus 3T has been sold out completely during Diwali and the device has been discontinued. After the official availability of the OnePlus 5T, the company is gearing up to phase out OnePlus 5. After four months, we will be able to purchase only OnePlus 5T.

Aim to sell the latest phone

Agarwal added that the company is willing to sell only the latest smartphone available on the market. Hence, the production of the previous models will be discontinued. However, the handsets such as OnePlus 5 will continue to sell as long as the stocks remain with various distributors.

He also said that OnePlus 5T is one of the best devices in terms of display, camera, and other related specifications. The main highlight of the OnePlus 5T is the integration of a large display to provide an awesome reading experience coupled with advanced multimedia capabilities.

Disappointing

Agarwal accepted the fact that users are disappointed after the release of OnePlus 5T. The main reason is attributed to the fact that price of the newly launched OnePlus 5T is same as OnePlus 5. The company would like to make customers happy but it’s not always possible. The product team continues to work hard and you can expect another iteration of the OnePlus series around July 2018.

Online presence

When asked about the offline presence, Agarwal revealed that the company is mainly concentrating on improving online segment and the entire strategy is working well for them. However, he also confirmed that offline stores help customers to test and work with the device before proceeding to purchase the smartphone. OnePlus has established a partnership with Croma, where they can not only work with the handset but also purchase them. We have our own exclusive stores in Bengaluru and Delhi. Moreover, the company will open new stores within the next one year in other major cities across India.
