BlackBerry Priv no longer receive any security updates

If you work with BlackBerry Priv, you have a news to get disappointed. The Canada-based mobile company has officially disclosed that the first Android smartphone BlackBerry Priv has reached the end of life. Hence, the BlackBerry Prov will not be eligible to receive support and updates in future. The company will not push any updates via OTA. The news is a major setback for smartphone enthusiasts who prefer BlackBerry for daily computing tasks.

According to the company sources, the BlackBerry Priv will receive critical security vulnerabilities in future if a case has been reported to the product team. Moreover, the company will also honor the warranty. If you had purchased the Priv phone recently, you need not have to worry because the manufacturer will continue to provide the warranty.

In a statement released to the press, the company added that BlackBerry Priv was pre-loaded with Android two years ago. During the launch of the device, the company promised a warranty of two years. The warranty time is now over and the phone will not receive any monthly updates in the upcoming future. If there is any security loophole, then the phone will receive the required update.

Meanwhile, BlackBerry announced that customers will be able to exchange Priv with other currently available Android smartphones via a trade-up program. You can easily upgrade to a BlackBerry KeyOne or Motion after deducting the exchange price.

The BlackBerry Priv is equipped with a 5.4-inch QHD AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, Snapdragon 808 processor, Adreno 418 graphics, 3GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage, a 18MP rear camera coupled with 2MP selfie camera. The rear camera offers a f/2.2 aperture coupled with Schneider-Kreuznach optics. Moreover, the sensor also provides support for Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), LED Flash and PDAF.

Loaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the BlackBerry Priv also ships with enhanced security and productivity features. The integrated 3410mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 helps you to easily charge the smartphone.

Even though the cost of BlackBerry Priv was made available for Rs. 62990, the company slashed the cost several times. The unique slider mechanism with other impressive design features yielded rich dividends for the Priv handset after the launch. However, the enthusiasm didn’t last for a long time. We can only wish the current users of BlackBerry Priv all the best.
