If reports are to be believed, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will most likely receive Android Oreo update within the next few days. Launched in October 2017, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 got rave reviews across the tech community. The Lei Jun-owned company had released a beta build of Android Oreo exclusively for Mi Mix 2 customers on the official MIUI forum.
According to Xiaomi, the Android Oreo program for the Mi Mix 2 will be a closed beta. Hence, only a few select customers will be eligible to download and install the software bits. However, we expect that the number of customers will be less because of expensive pricing and hence the update will be made available for all users.
To begin with, Xiaomi will select users selectively to enable them to gather feedback for improvement. Due to the nature of the update, there will be bugs and errors, which needs to be reported back to the team. The company will then work to resolve all bugs in the final stable release.
In addition to refreshed notification settings, the Android Oreo update also brings to the table a wide range of emojis, doze mode. The addition of Project Treble helps you to fetch software updates quickly. The update will also ship with a wide range of new features and enhancements.
On the specifications front, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is equipped with a 5.99-inch FHD+ IPS (2160×1080, 1500:1 aspect ratio) display, Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 graphics, 6GB RAM, 128GB UFS 2.1 expandable internal storage, 12MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, Android 7.1 Nougat powered by a 3400mAh battery.
The smartphone features four-sided curved ceramic back with 18-karat gold plated decorative camera rim. The addition of the 7-series aluminium alloy frame not only adds premium look but also provides durability. The rear camera includes a Sony IMX386 sensor with 4-axis OIS technology. The selfie camera is housed in the bottom right corner because of the lack of bezels on the top side.
When it comes to the sounding, the Mi Mix 2 features a tuned sound guiding tube to enable clarity in the calls even in an extremely noisy environment. The powerful Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 6GB RAM will ensure lag-free performance.
Interestingly, the Android One-enabled Mi A1 also started to receive the beta build of Android Oreo. Moreover, some of the smartphones expected to receive Oreo update are Mi Max 2, Mi Mix, Mi Note 3 and Mi 6. The upcoming Redmi Note 5 will be pre-loaded with Android Oreo, while the Redmi Note 4 will refresh with Oreo update before Q1 2018.
To be eligible to receive Android Oreo for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, you need to join the beta program by December 24. The company will select eligible users by December 27.
