Reliance launched the much-hyped JioPhone in 2017. Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of the JioPhone and the directors comprising of his son and daughter demonstrated the functionalities of the feature phone. The Reliance JioPhone was touted to be free. Initially, you will have to pay Rs. 500 followed by the balance upon delivery. The company will refund the payment if you return the JioPhone feature phone after three years.
Reliance JioPhone was made available for pre-order exclusively via Jio.com and select retail outlets. The latest news is that JIO Phone with model number F90M is currently listed on Amazon India. However, you will have to pay Rs. 1745 with additional Rs. 49 towards shipping. The Amazon price is higher than the retail price. Moreover, the device is sold and fulfilled by a third-party seller named GADGET GEEK BUSINESS SOLUTION and not by Amazon.
Even though you can buy the Reliance-branded phone via Amazon, you need to activate it by purchasing a Jio 4G SIM card from your nearest outlet. We are not sure as to whether the seller has been authorized by Reliance to sell the feature phone. The JioPhone coupled with Jio 4G connectivity will help you to experience uninterrupted voice and data with non-stop access to JioTV, JioMusic, JioXPressNews, JioCinema and much more.
You should also note that if you purchase the phone from Amazon, you will not be entitled to claim a refund after three years. It is advisable to buy directly from Reliance retail outlet since you will be able to get it at a reduced price. You will also get the required warranty. Interestingly, the Amazon listing has specified the specifications and description in all caps, which looks irritating.
On the specifications front, the Reliance JioPhone is equipped with a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 512MB RAM, 4GB expandable storage, 2MP rear camera paired with a VGA camera. The phone provides support for 4G LTE and VoLTE. It is possible to extend the storage up to 128GB. The company is gearing up to integrate Google Assistant using which you can interact with voice to fetch answers to queries.
