Honor 7X to refresh with facial recognition capability before Q1 2018

In a significant development, Honor 7X will refresh with facial recognition capability within the next few days via an OTA update. The news has been confirmed by the company. According to sources, the new update will be made available to all variants of Honor 7X.

It is to be noted that the Honor 7X does not ship with biometric sensors to enable 3D scanning like in the case of iPhone X. Hence, the Face Unlock feature will have to rely on the 8MP front camera. To work with the Face Unlock feature, the device will make use of the selfie camera to recognize your face.

If you had worked with OnePlus 5T, you know about the usage of the face unlocking feature. With the help of the face unlock capability, the handset will be unlocked automatically without having to press the power/lock button. Even though the face unlock feature is not robust and safe than the fingerprint sensor, you will be able to unlock the device easily without having to draw pattern or by providing passcode.

We don’t have any exact timeframe for the arrival of the Honor 7X update with face unlock capability. Based on the reports available from various tech portals, we expect an update before the end of Q1 2018.

Meanwhile, the Huawei-owned company launched a new limited edition red color variant of the Honor 7X in addition to the availability of the Honor View 10 smartphone. The limited edition red color Honor 7X will be available in the US, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Indis starting February 14. Interestingly, the date falls on the eve of Valentine’s day. As part of the launch offer, the company will provide Honor-Monster AM15 headphones for the first 100 customers who purchase the red color variant of the Honor 7X.

The Honor 7X is equipped with a 5.93-inch FHD+ IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio and pixel density of 407PPI. Moreover, the Honor 7X features a HiSilicon Kirin 659 processor, Mali-T830 MP2 graphics, 3GB/4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB expandable internal storage loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat.

While the rear side features a dual camera sensor comprising of 16MP and 2MP sensors with support for PDAF, LED Flash, HDR, face detection and panorama, the front camera is integrated with an 8MP sensor. It is possible to shoot FHD videos at 30fps. A 3340mAh battery supplies the required power for the smartphone with a talk time of up to 21 hours.
