LAVA Design in India initiative is a step in right direction, says Ravi Shankar Prasad

LAVA has announced its plans to establish an exclusive manufacturing facility under the Design in India initiative. Commenting on the development, Union telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad revealed that the Government has laid out several plans to make India a global hub for the manufacturing of electronic products. The initiative taken by LAVA is a step in right direction.

With Design in India initiative, LAVA will research, design and manufacture smartphones from within the country without depending upon Chinese markets. Prasad added that the Government has succeeded in the establishment of nearly 108 manufacturing units in India after Narendra Modi led government assumed office.

Manoj Sinha, Union Minister of State for Communications revealed that the main aim of the Government is to create 100 million jobs by 2022. The initiatives framed by the government such as Make in India and Design in India has played a key role in not only providing jobs for the youths but also enhanced the living style to a large extent.

According to LAVA, the first smartphone under the Design in India will be launched by the end of October followed by several premium handsets. The company said that by 2021, the company will manufacture all smartphones in India.

Responding to media, Hari Om Rai, Chairman and Managing Director, LAVA International added that Design in India is a critical step towards the efforts of the company to build the components required for smartphones. The company has built a basic infrastructure for the development of components in India over the last few years.

Even though LAVA established their factory in Noida in 2016, the company sourced hardware components from China. The Design in India initiative will completely eliminate Chinese dependency, which is a big boon for India both in terms of job and revenue generation.
