Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ launch date announced: All you want to know

Samsung has officially announced the launch dates for the release of the next-generation Samsung Galaxy S9 series. The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will launch at the MWC 2018 Unpacked event in Barcelona on February 25. This means the devices will launch one day before the commencement of the MWC 2018.

Talking about the design aspects, we can expect the integration of a full-screen display identical to that of the Galaxy S8 series. Moreover, the screen will bear 18:5:9 aspect ratio with thin bezels on both sides including top and bottom. Samsung will provide a small amount of space on the top to incorporate the sensors. We expect the addition of a glass coupled with a metal frame.

According to rumors, Samsung will most likely infuse Y-OCTA (Youm On-Cell Touch AMOLED) display technology instead of standard Super AMOLED. The advantage of Y-OCTA display is that the touch sensor will be placed directly on the flexible OLED layer, which will ultimately reduce the thickness and weight. With Samsung Galaxy S9, the fingerprint sensor will be placed below the camera module.

The main highlight of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9 series will be the addition of an enhanced camera. This is evident from the fact that the Samsung has codenamed the Unpacked event with the tagline “The Camera. Reimagined.”

Can we expect ISOCELL camera sensors? Let’s wait and watch. The advantage of ISOCELL sensors is that it includes an ability to enhance light sensitivity and the ability to capture FHD videos at 480fps. While the Galaxy S9 will ship with a single 12MP rear camera sensor, the bigger brother will have dual camera sensors comprising of 12MP sensors each.

Specifications wise, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be equipped with a Snapdragon 845 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, up to 64GB expandable internal storage with dust and water resistant capability via IP68. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will have a 5.8-inch QHD+ display, while the Galaxy S9+ carries a 6.2-inch display.

From our point of view, Samsung will ship Galaxy S9 with a standard AMOLED display. However, the Galaxy S9+ will be infused with Y-OCTA display. You can also expect the addition of wireless charging. The possibility of Samsung ditching the traditional headphone port is bleak.

The launch date is now confirmed to launch on February 25. Hence, you will be able to pre-order the smartphone from February 26 in the US with shipping from March 26. Samsung will probably conduct a separate launch event in the first week of March.
