LG is reportedly working on to manufacture a foldable smartphone with a strap on the hand. Our friends at mobielkopen have accessed the exclusive design patent from the USPTO official website. The design patent images were published on February 13, 2018. However, the Korea-based company had applied for a design patent with the title Mobile Phone way back on March 9, 2015.

Upon inspection of the design patent, we infer that the upcoming LG smartphone will feature a hand strap at the rear of the foldable device. We can also spot a hand on the strap. Interestingly, the design patent doesn’t mention the real purpose of the strap.

The rumored hand strap expected to ship with LG design patent can be used to record videos with the front-facing camera. The strap makes sure that the phone doesn’t fall off the hands. You can hold the strap to easily shoot short demonstration videos. You can also make use of the strap to capture selfies.

There are reports that the company is currently working on to develop several prototypes before kick-starting mass production. In addition to LG, Apple is also working on a foldable mobile phone as per the previously circulated patent and applications.
