BSNL has introduced unlimited prepaid packages starting at Rs. 99. However, the offer will be applicable only for the Calcutta telecom circle. The main aim of the new Rs. 99 plan is to combat the competition. The company is also in the process of recovering dues from various educational and retail customers worth Rs. 300 crores.
Commenting on the development, Calcutta Telephones CGM SP Tripathi disclosed that BSNL is confident that the 2100MHz spectrum band will boost the telecom sector. He also confirmed the 4G rollout to happen by the end of March 2018. The relevant equipment for the 4G push is ready and the company will launch the mobile service as soon as it contains the 2100MHz spectrum band. Tripathi added that there are over 650 towers ready for the big 4G plunge.
While the Rs. 99 will be valid for 26 days, the Rs. 319 package will expire after 90 days. The plans offer unlimited voice calls coupled with roaming. If you pay Rs. 999, you will be eligible to avail unlimited calls and 1GB premium high-speed data with 1GB FUP limit for 181 days.
Tripathi is hopeful that the upcoming fiscal year 2018-2019 would be better since the consolidation and price disputes will end. According to estimates, the overall revenues of the Calcutta Telephones would be between Rs. 510 crores and Rs. 550 crores. The state-owned company had reported a loss of Rs. 350 crores.
