BSNL welcomes more than one lakh customers of Aircel via MNP

Going forward, BSNL will have good times because of the ultimate shut down of Aircel. The state-owned telecom provider disclosed that more than one lakh customers of Aircel have already registered under the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) facility.

Commenting on the development, R Marshal Antony Leo, Chief General Manager, BSNL Tamil Nadu circle revealed that over 57345 customers have migrated to BSNL in February. The current status is that another 1.85 lakh customers are waiting in the queue to join the BSNL. Interestingly, around 1.28 lakh customers have successfully ported to BSNL in just five days starting March 1.

Aircel had filed for bankruptcy a few days back because the company is unable to cope up with the intense competition. The company sources cited that the company is facing troubled times in a highly financially stressed atmosphere. Moreover, the entry of a new player had totally disrupted the mobile service arena in India. The company didn’t specifically mention the name of Reliance Jio. Aircel also had to face complex legal and regulatory challenges included increased debt and losses.

Leo added that 58 locations with 84 access points have been identified to establish BSNL Wi-Fi hotspots in the country. the state-owned company had entered into a partnership with Nokia to push BSNL 4G services in 10 circles in the Southern and Western zones. The department has allocated 566 4G e-Node B equipment for the 4G services in the Tamil Nadu circle.
