Xiaomi launched the much-awaited Redmi 5 at a budget-friendly cost starting at Rs. 7999. T0uted as a compact powerhouse, the Redmi 5 is capable of delivering one day of battery life even upon extreme usage. During the launch event, the company disclosed that the smartphone will be sold exclusively via Amazon India and the official Mi India site on March 20, 12 PM.

Display

The main highlight of Redmi 5 is the integration of a 5.7-inch display with 18:9 full-screen display. The corners are designed in rounded fashion and in an ergonomic manner in such a way to provide a good hand feel. The resolution of the display is 1440×720 pixels, which is higher when compared to standard handsets. Moreover, the pixel density of 282PPI paired with 1000:1 contrast ratio and 450-nits brightness will help you to experience stunning visuals. The phone also provides support for night display, reading and standard mode including color temperature adjustment.

Performance

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is equipped with a Snapdragon 450 processor, Adreno 506 graphics alongside 2GB/3GB RAM. The 2GB RAM model will have a 16GB storage, while the 3GB RAM variant offers 32GB storage. The chipset runs at a clock speed of 1.8GHz, which is sufficient for running normal applications.

Camera

The rear side offers a dual camera comprising of 12MP sensors with 5-element lens and f/2.2 aperture. The camera provides support for PDAF, HDR, panorama, burst mode, face recognition in addition to single LED flash. the sensor also offers low light enhancement capabilities, which enables you to capture excellent images even in extreme low-light conditions. On the rear, the Redmi 5 features a 5MP sensor with Beautify 3.0 support. With Redmi 5, you will be able to shoot FHD and HD videos at 30fps. The selfie camera also provides support for selfie countdown and face recognition technologies.

Battery

The Redmi 5 is powered by a 3300mAh battery with support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, AGPS, GLONASS, BeiDou including standard sensors such as proximity, gyroscope, Accelerometer and ambient light sensor.

Pricing and Availability

The Redmi 5 is available in both 2 GB and 3GB RAM variants. The 2GB model with 16GB storage is priced at Rs. 7999, while the 3GB RAM variant with 32GB expandable internal storage is available at a budget-friendly price of Rs. 8999. The pricing is competitive since the device is integrated with the latest trending bezel-less display and face recognition technologies.
