Google Assistant has been upgraded with the ability to send money via Google Play. According to company sources, users in the US would be able to send or request money from the contacts with a simple voice command starting with Hey Google. This feature work not only on Android but also iOS devices.
Commenting on the development, Sam Kansara, Product Manager, Google Pay disclosed that it is now possible for you to ask Google Assistant to pay your friends. Moreover, it is also possible to easily send or request money directly from your contacts for free.
You just need to say the following commands:
- Hey Google, request $20 from Sam for the show tonight
- Hey Google, send Jane $15 for lunch today
If the relevant user doesn’t have a Google Pay account, they will view a prompted to create an account. The search-engine giant also revealed that you will be able to send money via smart home speakers such as Google Home. The transactions should be authenticated with the help of Google password or fingerprint. We don’t have any information about when the feature will be available countries outside the US.
That being said, WhatsApp is also working towards implementation of a new payments capability but the security of the mechanism is a big question mark. The main reason is that the company has breached data security norms by handing over crucial data to Cambridge Analytica.
