Xiaomi is gearing up to establish new manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, the new facilities at Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will manufacture a wide range of smartphones and printed circuit boards (PCB). The main purpose of the move is to double the manufacturing capacity in India. However, we don’t have any information about the amount of investment the company pumped from China.
Commenting on the development, Manu Kumar Jain disclosed that the company already had two manufacturing plants for the manufacture of smartphones in India. In partnership with Foxconn, the company has added two more facilities in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh and Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, which will be exclusively oriented for the manufacturing of printed circuit boards. Jain also added that they are also manufacturing smartphones from a Hipad-sourced facility based in Noida
With the establishment of two new manufacturing plants, it will be possible to manufacture two phones per second during business hours. The company is all set to make a huge push not only in online but also offline segments.
According to Jain, PCB is a required component and it comprises of 50 percent of the overall value of the device. Xiaomi is expected to integrate PCBs manufactured in India on all smartphones manufactured from Q3 2018. the aim is to infuse an overall capital of Rs 15000 crore with the capability to generate employment to over 50000 people both directly and indirectly.
The interesting aspect of the Xiaomi manufacturing facilities is that nearly 95 percent of total 10000 workforces are women. The new PCB assembly unit in Sriperumbudur established in partnership with Foxconn will also follow the same path.
