Vodafone Foundation has successfully completed Saksham project, which empowered 360 youths in Hamirpur with all the required skills and employment. The project is a novel initiative in collaboration with CAP Foundation and the completion certifications were distributed by Lok Sabha MP Anurag Thakur.
The interesting part of Saksham is that out of 260 youths nearly 208 of them are women from Hamirpur. The project imparted all the relevant vocational skills in a bid to generate local employment.
Congratulating the youth and Vodafone on completing this novel project, Anurag Thakur disclosed that empowering youth is one of the important part in today’s scenario because we are moving ahead with the dream to build New India. He said that we should provide youths with all the required resources to enable them to excel in all sports, academics or vocational.
The partnership between Vodafone and Paryas Society is a step in the right direction and is aimed at empowering local talent by providing required training and job in their own region. Thakur lauded the efforts taken by Vodafone for supporting a project that makes difference in the lives of several people.
Under the Basic Employability Skill Training (BEST) model, Vodafone Foundation and CAP Foundation selected 360 youth between 15 to 35 years of age and provided them with relevant skill training in areas where there are immense job opportunities.
The subject areas included ITES, Retail, Cutting & Tailoring, Mobile repairing, Beauty & Wellness. According to Vodafone, nearly 278 youths have found job opportunities soon after the completion of the skill training.
Vodafone also released a case study by stating that 19-year-old Sarika and 20-year-old Rajkumar have already found a job to supplement their daily life. After getting injured during a Kabaddi training session, Sarika found it hard to earn. She is currently working with a local newspaper office after successfully completing ITES course through Sakhsham. Meanwhile, Rajkumar’s life went through a tough phase with his brother and father struggled to meet the bare minimum requirements to treat his mother. Today, Rajkumar is working with a mobile storer after completing Mobile repairing course via Sakhsham.
