Google Allo development paused but likely to be back with new RCS capabilities

Google has announced that the product team has paused the development work related to Google Allo messaging app. Google Allo app was launched with much fantasy in September 2016 and we still remember the amount of work carried out by us soon after the launch.

We personally installed the app and interacted with our team members via the app. However, Google never got the required amount of market share for the Allo app since people have started to use WhatsApp as their primary source.

The killing of Google Allo app assumes significance since the app was launched in 2016. The app provided integrated support for Google Assistant. The main reason for shunting the Allo app is to launch an enhanced version of the app with SMS module.

According to The Verge, the search-engine giant has paused the Google Allo work to invest time for the development of the Rich Communication Services aka RCS. If Google successfully manages to plugin the RCS, then Google Allo will interact with SMS and other messaging apps. Going forward, we can expect the rollout of Android Messages instead of the traditional SMS.

That said, Allo was never popular like WhatApp. How many time did you hear of people saying Google Allo? If one people say Google Allo, nearly 100 people will invoke WhatsApp from their mouth. WhatsApp has become very popular among not only tech enthusiasts but also common people including farmers. The reach of WhatsApp has been phenomenal even villagers are aware of the benefits offered by the app.

According to Google Play statistics, over 10 million people have downloaded Allo app. Talking about WhatsApp, over one billion users have downloaded the app globally. The volume speaks for itself about the popularity.

The Allo app is and will be very much alive on Google Play Store. However, you can’t expect any new updates until the Google team refreshes the app with new features. Sometime, Google will completely remove the app after few days.

We can’t assure you of anything at this point in time. If you are able to locate Google Allo while searching on the Play Store, you should go ahead and install the app. You will be able to experience all the features such as Google Assistant with Google Allo app. Google also released Google Duo app, which is a video-based messaging software.
