WhatsApp is not only a messaging tool but also serves the purpose of smart messaging. You can now track train schedules, timings, and PNR status via WhatsApp. The Indian Railways has entered into a partnership with MakeMyTrip to provide real-time status of train schedules via WhatsApp. You can fetch relevant information just by providing the train number.
You will be able to keep track of live train status, PNR status including the upcoming and departed railway stations. You need not have to dial 139 to retrieve the status of trains without using any third-party apps.
The first step is to install WhatsApp on your smartphone. If you already have installed WhatsApp, you just need to open the app. You should add MakeMyTrip’s phone number – 7349389104 to your phone contact as Train status like that. You should open the relevant contact from within the WhatsApp. You can also tap on the saved contact name and select Message option from the displayed page.
To fetch train related information, you only need to provide the relevant train number and send it as a message from within the Makemytrip Whatsapp page. If you view two ticks, the message has been delivered. It will take 5 to 10 minutes for the system to retrieve information about the train.
The problem with the service is that if you input a train number then it will return with a message that the train hasn’t departed from the source station. It’s not possible to keep track of the status for running trains.
As you can see from the above screenshot, the messages have been delivered after a delay. Even though you can use the service provided by WhatsApp, there is no guarantee as to whether you will be able to fetch information properly. The output generated by the WhatsApp seems to be accurate but there is no use if you are unable to
It is also possible to track the status of your train tickets by providing the PNR number but we are concerned about the privacy. There is no assurance that your data will be safe since you are communicating directly via message.
The best alternative to WhatsApp based train status checking is to download the official NTES mobile app. You will be able to know the status by providing the train number without disclosing your mobile number.
