The news seems to be shocking but we have to accept the fact. eBay India, the favorite destination of online shoppers before the arrival of Flipkart and Amazon has announced the closure of its India operations starting August 14. You will not be able to transact on eBay.in starting August 14. However, eBay has requested customers not to worry because Flipkart will introduce a brand-new shopping experience within the next few days.
According to the official site, eBay will not be accepting new orders starting August 14. If you are a seller, you can’t list new items since the window date ended on July 31. The page prompts you to visit ebay.com to buy and sell globally. eBay has advised customers to visit Flipkart.com to buy and sell products within India.
Within just 14 days left for the closure of eBay India, the new policy states that you can’t buy below Rs 251 and above Rs 7999 till August 14, 2018. We made an attempt to buy an item for Rs 145 and the system rejected the order stating that the value should be above Rs 251. Furthermore, you can’t use eBay.in credentials to purchase products on Flipkart.
We suspected something is wrong with eBay for the last several months because the company stopped providing coupons. Moreover, we didn’t get any newsletters over the last one month. The closure of eBay is indeed a big blow for customers.
This is because people used to login to ebay to buy accessories at cheap rates. We had purchased several products over the last 10 years from eBay at discounted rates with coupons. The Dell laptop which we purchased via ebay lasted for 8 years. Moreover, we had purchased the first generation iPod including accessories from eBay. We also one received Micromax feature phone in return for a smartphone purchase.
According to ebay, the expiry date of all the coupons have been revised to August 13. If you have any coupon, you should try to buy something from the marketplace before August 13. You can also buy some cheap items before August 14 in memory of eBay.
The closure of eBay is a big bonus from home-grown ShopClues and Snapdeal since they can now use the sellers to tap their marketplaces. Nowadays, Shopclues have been the ultimate shopping destination for budget customers since they sell products at low prices.
It seems that Flipkart has already migrated all sellers to Flipkart. It remains to be seen as to whether how many sellers would migrate to Flipkart. It all depends upon the amount of commissions. That being said, the good old days of coupon-based purchases are gone.
If you had shopped on eBay before, you would remember that eBay India used to provide coupons such as Flat 100 off, 100 off 200 like that. Let’s hope for the best in the coming days.
