WhatsApp has pushed an update that enables you to perform group calling on not only voice but also video globally. We updated WhatsApp but unable to find the presence of the update. It will take a few days for the new update to hit your smartphone. The new feature was announced at the F8 conference in May 2018.
Commenting on the development, WhatsApp product team disclosed that group calls are end-to-end encrypted and secure. Moreover, the voice and video calling capabilities are designed to work under different network conditions. The company also revealed that over 2 million minutes of calls are made per day. There are over 60 billion messages delivered via WhatsApp on a daily basis from across the world.
To work with the WhatsApp Group Calling functionality, you should select “Add Participant” button located at the top right-hand side of the app. The relevant participant will receive a message notification with a request to join the group call. The invite can either be accepted or declined. You will be able to interact with up to four participants via the group calling function and is ideal for small families and business establishments.
Going forward, the Facebook-owned company will provide support for more than 4 participants to compete with Skype, Google Hangouts, Instagram and Facebook Messenger. The upcoming iOS 12 will provide support for FaceTime with up to 32 people.
We updated WhatsApp but unable to find any group calling capability. We will continue to monitor the developments associated with WhatsApp group calling. Stay tuned.
