Vodafone empowers underprivileged children in Kashmir as part of Ramzan initiative

Vodafone has donated a sum of Rs 5.4 lakh for the education of underprivileged children in Kashmir as part of the holy month of Ramzan. The purpose of this initiative is to keep with the ‘spirit of giving’ associated with the auspicious month.

The company has so far donated more than Rs 33.5 lakh in the past 6 years to provide education to underprivileged children and Kashmiri youths. Vodafone has tied-up with Sakhawat Centre, run by Iqbal Memorial Trust, an NGO in Srinagar for the implementation of the project.

As part of the initiative with Sakhawat Centre, Vodafone donated 1 paisa for every outgoing call or recharge and Rs. 5 for every new activation in the Kashmir province during the entire month of Ramzan this year starting May 17, 2018. It is to be noted that Vodafone does not charge any payment from the customer for this program.

Commenting on the development, Sudhir Pradhan, Business Head – Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, Vodafone Idea Limited disclosed that the company has adopted the annual Giving Initiative not only to commemorate Ramzan but also to make a meaningful contribution to the development of Kashmir. He also added that Vodafone has donated immensely to underprivileged children in Kashmir to enable them to grow as individuals. Pradhan said that they will continue to embark on this novel initiative in the upcoming years.

The cheque amounting to Rs 5.4 Lakh was formally handed over to Dr. Yusuf-ul-Omer, Administrator, Sakhawat Centre (under Iqbal Memorial Trust) and Mir Mohammad Ashraf, Secretary Sakhawat Centre (under Iqbal Memorial Trust). Omer said that Vodafone has shown remarkable commitment towards the development of underprivileged children of Kashmir and their empowerment through education. They are delighted to be associated with Vodafone, which is exclusively designed to create a better tomorrow for Kashmir and Kashmiri youth.
