HMD Global has rolled out Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Nokia 3 smartphone. The handset was launched pre-loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat but received an update to Android 8.0 Oreo in April 2017. The recent release of Android 8.1 Oreo is as a result of constant push and feedback from the part of customers. It looks like you will have to spend more time to receive Android Pie update.
In addition to Android 8.1 Oreo, the Nokia 3 update also includes December 2018 security patches. If you install the new update, your device will stay protected against the latest security threats. The update changelog specifically states System Stability and hence you can expect an improved performance of the system.
The company has rolled out the update in a phased manner and hence it will take few days for the new bits to reflect on the device. You will receive a notification when the update reaches your phone. You can either wait or manually check for the presence of the update by tapping Settings menu.
The reasons for the delayed rollout of Android 8.1 Oreo can be many. There are talks on the town that devices powered by MediaTek chipset lag behind when it comes to new updates. It is stated that Snapdragon handsets generally get updates quickly when compared with MediaTek devices.
Before proceeding to install the update, you should charge the handset up to 100 percent and activate Wi-Fi. It is also advisable to free up internal storage space to pave way for the installation of Android 8.1 Oreo.
