Microsoft has announced the release of smart Phonetic Indic keyboards for 10 Indian languages in the recently released May 2019 update (19H1) for Windows 10. After the installation of the update, you will be able to work with Phonetic Indic keyboards for Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Bangla, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Odia, and Malayalam languages. According to the company sources, the new Phonetic Indic keyboards contribute towards inclusive computing in India.
The smart Phonetic Indic keyboards included with the May 2019 update (19H1) for Windows 10 keep track of the behavior patterns and preferences of the user to deliver personalized word suggestions in Indian languages. The update also improves the accuracy and speed of text input by 20 percent. It is also possible to easily embed regional symbols.
The Phonetic Indic keyboards are designed based on transliteration and not translation. You will be able to view the content rendered via natural pronunciation. You can work with the keyboard immediately after the installation of the update. You can now write content based on Indic text using the existing keyboards. There is no need to purchase Indic keyboards or download the Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool (ILIT) from the official Indic community portal.
If you haven’t updated your system with May 2019 update (19H1) for Windows 10, you should navigate to Settings | Updates & Security | Windows Update option. The update will install and the system will restart automatically. After that, you can activate the keyboard by clicking on the Language settings.
