Apple has pushed a major watchOS 6 update to Apple model models for customers based in India. According to reports, the watchOS 6 update is made available to select Apple Watch variants. The main highlight of the watchOS 6 update is that it brings in A-Fib Detection capability alongside an exclusive ECG app.
You will also find new apps such as Voice Memos, Noise including the ability to track the menstrual cycle. After the installation of the new watchOS 6 update, you will be able to install apps directly from the watch. Apple has rolled out irregular heart rhythm functionality with the watchOS 6 update to all Apple Watch models.
If you are working with Apple Watch Series 4, you will be able to record ECG using the integrated app. Apple also revealed that the new ECG capability will also be available for all Apple Watch Series 5 expected to hit the retail shelves by this month-end.
Apple also rolled out watchOS 6 update to Apple Watch Series 3 and Series 4. The Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning to push watchOS 6 update for the Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 1 models by the end of December 2019. Atrial fibrillation aka A-fib signifies rapid and irregular heart beat. As per medical terminology, the A-fib is an abnormal heart rhythm. The early detection of A-fib is important because the condition will aggravate suddenly and hence it should be treated immediately.
The new features introduced with the watchOS 6 update periodically check heart rhythms while you are working in the background. The module issues a notification immediately when it detects an irregular heart rhythm. This will help you to approach a physician for prompt treatment. Even though Apple has implemented the feature, you should note that the values might not be accurate. Hence, you should always consult a health care provider.
Talking about the ECG app, the specialized electrodes integrated into the back crystal of the watch helps you to capture ECG from your own location. You just need to open the ECG app, touch the crown to capture ECG.
The readings are stored in the Health app on iPhone. It is also possible to share a PDF version of the ECG data with your physician. However, it remains to be seen as to how many doctors in India are aware of this capability in the Apple Watch.
If you are currently using the compatible Apple Watch, you should automatically receive the update. Alternatively, you can also verify the presence of the update manually. It will take a few days for the update to hit your watch.
