Microsoft Pushes Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990 20H1 With New Features

Microsoft has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990 20H1 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. You should be part of the fast ring to be eligible to receive the new update. Like in the case of the previous updates, the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990 will have possible bugs.

You should be careful that if you install the update, you won’t be able to switch over to the Slow or release preview builds without performing a complete installation. You will be able to know the features included with the build by navigating to the Flight Hub.

After the installation of the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990 20H1, you will be able to enable automatic restart for UWP apps. This feature is in addition to the registered desktop apps. The UWP apps are minimized in a suspended state to reduce the overall sign-in time.

To work with this feature, you need to navigate to Settings | Accounts | Sign-in options and activate “Automatically save my restartable apps when I sign out and restart them after I sign in” located under restart apps. You should then start one or multiple UWP apps such as Feedback Hub. You will view that the UWP apps will restart minimized with a taskbar button.

The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990 brings in improved performance for directory listings in \\wsl$ including fixing of the injected additional boot entropy. The version also resolved Windows interop when using su/sudo commands.

Microsoft has rolled out FPS counter and achievement overlay with the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990. These updates will be made available via the Microsoft Store. You should focus on your game and press WIN+G to work with this functionality. You should opt to receive the Game Bar updates via the Xbox Insider Hub app from the official Microsoft Store.

The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990 20H1 is capable of resetting your PC via the Cloud. You need to download a new image from the cloud instead of the Windows installation files stored locally on the machine.

To work with this feature, you need to navigate to the Start | Settings | Update & Security | Recovery menu. You will view two options such as Cloud download or Local reinstall. The Cloud download module will establish connectivity with the Windows Update over your existing Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18990 20H1 also includes several bug fixes. Microsoft has fixed a problem where context menu could not be brought up when you right-click on File Explorer’s search box.

The default width of the search box in the File Explorer has been updated to a bigger size. The issues pertaining to the Action Center reliability and credentials prompt have been resolved. The Magnifier bugs have been resolved at various DPI levels.
